On Saturdays, Pastor María Luis Gómez Jarrett hitchhikes from her home in Piedrecitas to a turnoff 20 kilometers west. She then walks two miles into the rural countryside to reach Corojo, a small farming community. María spends Saturday nights in a small room at the rear of La Vid Veradera, the True Vine Baptist Church, then leads Sunday services for approximately 20 church members.
Her goal is to bring the word of God to all people, and she feels a special call to work in this under-served farming community where alcoholism has damaged health, families, and relationships. "I want them to know that God wants them to have a better life," says Gómez.
